Intro

let’s take a look at what America thinks

What America thinks

I’m looking at amazon.com at the best-selling books to see if any of your books are in the top 10 and turns out none of you have a book according to the diet and weight loss section the top 10 but the number 3 book is the unbelievably low carb high fat cookbook the number 6 book is grain brain the surprising truth about wheat carbs and sugar and that promotes a diet if you look in the back of beef and chicken and fish and dairy the slow cooker recipes 30 oh no sorry famous dishes made low-carb your favorite low fat low carb cooking recipes so despite the reality when you hear and you guys saying lots of things the main question while America understands that cigarettes are not good and they understand that drunk driving is not good if you go somewhere in the country and you say that you recommend a plant-based diet that is even though it might seem like the norm among your friends and your colleagues in America that is not does not seem to be accepted so my question to you is why do you think that animal products should not be eaten why do you think animal products are not the appropriate diet and that this is not something that we should be eating and I guess we’re talking to my mother my father and everyone who’s gonna watch this not just the believers who you know the people who saw the Time magazine that said butter is back I’ll

The Meat and Dairy Industry

kick that off I think you know when you look at the overwhelming Lobby from the meat and dairy industry and the government support worldwide it’s sort of evident why that’s what people think about when I was educated a long time ago as a little boy I was literally intimidated into believing that if I didn’t eat meat I would die of protein starvation I was actually told in class as a youngster I would die I was also in the same breath told that if didn’t drink milk my bones would crumble so this is a pretty good marketing ploy I would say then I went on to higher education and took nutrition courses and at graduate levels and they’re teaching the same thing by the way they’re teaching the same exact thing at graduate levels at the top universe not that I went to the top university but I’ve read the top universities manuals and workbooks so that’s a great marketing ploy and then when you get somebody in a habit of doing a particular thing long enough that we think it’s normal Hitler said it extremely well he said if you keep saying telling a lie eventually people are going to believe it’s a truth and I believe this is a lie and how I can say that is personally what happened to me and the hundreds of thousands of people I’ve worked with for 44 years what’s happened to them this conference is an environmental and health conference with the truth tellers of the world coming here to speak every single person will tell you why they believe a plant-based diet is good and many of these people are not health authorities they’re environmental scientists and if it’s bad for your body and the ripple effect is it destroys the planet earth that we live on and that every single creature on earth eats a hundred percent raw diet except the animals we’ve domesticated and if in fact we take 50 acres of land to produce one steer there’s nothing right about it other than they make enormous amounts of money now when I did my research for my book dairy deception I was looking at the latest data that in the United States alone government subsidies of the meat industry have prevented you from paying what you should pay for one pound of steak one pound of steak now would be between 30 and 35 dollars if your government in this country didn’t subsidize it I would assure you that is brainwashed as we are as often as you see this in advertisement as addicted as you are to consuming meat and dairy very few of us would if it was $35 a pounds I’m you know I’m a vegan diet

Dietary Guidelines

ition so I have a bias but I’ll tell you if you look at the research it is so clear as a matter of fact it’s so clear that in our 2015 Dietary Guidelines the Advisory Committee made the strongest statement that they’ve ever made in terms of people should be eating less meat they should be eating more plant-based diets there is a very strong connection between meat consumption and heart disease cancer diabetes we’ve got all kinds of meta analyses to that effect so there’s there’s no what is it in in meat it’s new 5 G C which is a pro-inflammatory compound it’s heterocyclic amines that are formed when you cook it it’s persistent organic pollutants in the environment it’s you know it’s there are all kinds of things in me it’s the hormones and antibiotics that are used there are all kinds of things that are problematic but to me it is the big picture that and I think Brian said it well we are slaughtering 70 billion animals on this planet every year for food and that’s just land animals we we’ve got 7.5 billion people on this planet you know Paleolithic times there were maybe a million to 6 million people everybody lived hunter-gather sort of lifestyle if everybody on this planet were to do that today we would need about 15 planet Earth’s to sustain this population and what we have got to start to recognize is that we’ve got to start living in a way that will accommodate all life on this planet not just me myself and I which is unfortunately what’s happening with the paleo movement and all of these movements that are promoting huge meat consumption this is not a good thing for us and it is not a good thing for the animals and it sure as heck is not a good thing for this planet we have finite resources so we we’ve got to look beyond ourselves this working now it is

Animal Products

thank you I just wanted to add that there’s at least a thousand well-designed studies that demonstrate that eating more animal products in your diet increase the risk of heart disease and stroke and cancer and obesity and diabetes for that matter – and I don’t think it’s controversial in the scientific world I don’t think it is a controversy and I think that what you said that the best-selling books I used to tell people that if a book is a really best-selling book then you know you can disregard it because because what people they buy books what they want to do it enough to do with the validity of the book but then I you unfortunately managed to have a best-selling book so how do I couldn’t save it anymore when I was talking I don’t know so you know we and we know that Americans are eating a huge amount of animal products and maybe and you know we could still be healthy eating a small amount if we ate you know some salamanders snakes worms no crickets maybe little crickets a small amount of flavor of your vegetables just a tiny bit but the point is that the huge amount of animal products Americans eat aren’t good for anybody’s constituency in any genetic anyone’s genetics if you because they it’s not and that’s been already well tested it’s whether your eye type your blood type your genetic genome whatever type them your mother’s maiden name spell backwards whatever it is the fact is is that in all types of people as animal products go up in a person’s diet as a percent of total calories so does disease rates and you can’t deny that we have to be realistic and all of us don’t want to have a premature death and don’t want to have cancer and the idea that we can live without fear and fear is a tremendous disease factoring disease causation and the average American out there is is it is how could we say this has a relationship with with their doctor that’s unsavory they have in other words they they’re they’re addicted to physicians they’ve got to be tested and they’re always in fear and they’re always under stress either being radiated or biopsied or something sapping them and it doesn’t have to be that way because we really should be able to live our lives in peace and an emotional peace knowing that our body is designed to be well and stay well and we don’t have to be sick and we don’t have to be fearful of getting some horrible disease either and that’s so freeing for people and so it’s so your parents are really the insane ones even though we’re the ones that people consider insane because we’re not the majority but it’s and they can actually there’s a how should we sit a movement to classify people into healthy eating as being quote some diagnosis like orthorexia or something right there’s something wrong with wanting to be healthy and not wanting to have cancer in your life exactly and in the reality is it’s everybody in America is created is a food addict has irrational thought processes to maintain their food addictions and are heavily addicted to the diet that’s killing them all and people who advocate and live by live in accordance with biological laws which govern human existence that enable us to live a life free of disease were seen as the crazy ones right so we’re really strange world we live in thank you you

Holistic veganism

know I take the approach of what I call holistic veganism which we’re all touching on already and we look at a lot of factors because the question I raised with diet and I’m gonna bring the word holiness in is is is are we living in a way that sanctifies all life on the planet are we eating in a way that UPS lifts the web of life on the planet it’s very clear that a meat-based dad doesn’t do this okay a plant-based diet is obviously best for our health that’s really it’s clear okay it’s also best for feeding people literally if the whole world were vegan instead of 20 to 40 million people starving to death each year and 15 million kids starving to death each year and 42,000 kids a day starving to death there’d be enough food to feed the planet seven times over that’s a pretty fundamental issue feed the poor feed the hungry preserve life Brenda’s talked about 70 billion animals being killed that’s a lot of blood okay then we talk about resources air and water and land are drastically being used up by meat Center diet the vegan has about 300 gallons of water a day a meat-eater 4,500 gallons well there’s a pretty big difference 9 to 10 times more and that has to do with that a vegan diet is much less water intensive Gabriel repeat that clearly for our viewers from California so we’ll talk about water intensive and please don’t think it’s just California the whole world is running out of water San Paulo and Brazil is due to run out the whole city 12 million people is due to run out of water this year okay this is not just a California problem but clearly it would help if we went to a vegan diet because we would be saving a vegan literally saves 1.5 million gallons a year that’s a whole swimming pool not bad in terms of land the animals are using about at least a third of the arable land that’s a lot of lint we’re a vegan type of diet is is maybe six percent 8 percent of the land so we have land we have water okay those are big issues what about spiritual life all the great traditions but perhaps one emphasize a vegan diet Genesis 1:29 makes it very clear I have given you every seed-bearing plant of the field and every tree that is a seed bearing fruit for you to eat didn’t say eat animals actually didn’t say that now people kind of stretch it and move away from it but the message is there and that’s 200,000 it’s true in the Hindu tradition it’s two in the Buddhist tradition okay so what’s going on is is that we’ve been given the best diet for spiritual life and we look the other way so these are the issues that were we’re facing okay and in terms of the world resources in terms of the human resources in terms of Cruelty to Animals ahem some very important principle do no harm do the minimum amount of harm well a vegan diet does the minimum on a heart we still need to live on the planet okay and plants can have feelings and so forth bets don’t weigh minimum compared to the amount of death and destruction with that so all these things are happening now we have additional problems is the animal place-based plan a diet better for you in a world of pollution you bet ninety-six percent of pesticides and herbicides that I’m going to say radiation here have to deal with higher up on the food chain so the research suggests that 96 percent of all the pesticides and herbicides coming from a meat-based diet mother’s milk a vegan has one percent – actually vegetarian even 1% amount of pesticides and herbicides and I will add radiation in her milk as compared to a meat-eating woman that’s pretty significant so if we’re going to deal weather radiation pesticides and herbicides which are up to 30 times more concentrated in the animal world then obviously for the preservation of the species which is where I’m going with this the vegan diet is what’s needed and I don’t think we’re alone we’re not quite the minority that his parents may think we honor your parents but the UN Commission and the European Commission are both saying we need for the preservation of planet we need to move towards a vegan diet that’s what they’re saying publicly the UN Commission and the European Commission in 2010 actually said that for the preservation of the planet because it’s the obvious thing you didn’t talk about health it’s the obvious thing that’s what we’re talking about we need to move towards a vegan diet so it’s all there it’s all happening and actually the world doesn’t have any choice now so it’s it’s yeah we can be tailored but debating there is no choice in a few more years it’ll be more and more obvious that the vegan diet is what’s needed for the preservation of the species and the preservation of the living planet so if I can just summarize

Summary

what we have said here we want to adopt a plant-based diet for health reasons for planetary survival that’s ecology and for ethical reasons – don’t we it’s spiritual that’s a good point yeah the other thing is yeah we are I think all in favor of moving towards plant-based diets special when you brought up the idea that we kill 1 million animals in this country per hour right there normos slaughter and you know people that are they have a sensitivity towards animals so they would tell you that if slaughterhouses would be made out of glass Ward’s everybody would become automatically a vegetarian I mean that’s one area the other area is you talked about the ranking of books right and while the ranking can be reflective of the quality of a book on the other hand it also reflects the marketing genius and the branding that a publisher brings to the task and the powers that be I mean you have a book called been around for 25 years how to eat according to your blood type saying that the ranking of the book reflects the quality of the book I was saying generally the core the ranking of the book reflects the fact that it’s poor quality the higher ranked books we’ve telling people what they want to hear what they want to buy because the masses are eating so unhealthful e they’ll prop up the books that are that correspond with what they want to eat well that was my point yeah that’s why you have a book like eat according to your blood type it’s still rough after 25 years I mean there is no scientific value to that book and yet it’s still up there and it seems that the crazier an idea really is the more people seem to flock to it this must be the answer right I mean I’m planning to write a book right now I read it along the same lines how to eat according to your shoe size [Laughter] you measure the foot and that’s the diet [Music] now I’m glad we all have a sense of humor that’s that’s the plant-based diet that a planet based diet yes yes yes yes yes yes I wanted to make it we talked about plant-based I like to expand it just a bit more because we’re all committed to that and that has to do with we wanted perhaps enlarge the term to foods as grown so that we are or foods so we also recognize it’s not just a matter of moving towards a plant-based diet but you also should be concerned about the processed food fortune which is now really gaining more and more ground and I’m very concerned about this specially when you showed some of the distribution of were there about over fifty percent of the calories we eat today comes from processed foods and it’s basically food that is it has been characterized by hyper palatability it tastes great to the people in general and that’s what is driving this thing how many of you know the term hyper palatability that’s where commercial food companies globally literally put addictive substances beyond the sugar fat and salt into the food to get you your friends your family your children addicted permanently to that product and I wouldn’t doubt I’m not positive of this because I watched the health food companies that supported genetically modified not labeling that maybe some of these are slipping into the health food chain at this point – yeah with you Brian is talking about his opioids this and there’s opioid formulas that make people dictate their particular brand let’s be it’s very specific so they addicted to the taste and that opioid combination I do you know who told this that at least told me then is a former head of the Food and Drug Administration dr. David Kessler I was stunned when he told this to me because he was on the other side and he watched it and his biggest concern now rightfully is childhood obesity if you think we’re sick today you wait you wait until these kids get to be twenty and thirty years old
